The Hell-Cat review starts here
Label: I love this label for its sheer simplicity. It’s not over-crowded, it’s not tacky, it’s just simple, honest to goodness design at its finest. The little cupid character clutching a big glass of foaming beer has become iconic in Australia and instantly recognisable as the logo for the Little Creatures Brewing company. It has a touch of elegance, a touch of class. It’s a label that I am proud to hold.
I give it a label rating of 8 out of 10.
AROMA: Delicious…there is a gentle waft of mellow Summer fruits that rises up, tucks you into bed and gives you a goodnight kiss on the forehead.
Taste: GLASS – One of my all time favourite beers, it is an absolute pleasure to be reviewing Little Creatures Pale Ale for my 100th review. It’s a fresh, thirst quenching ale with a pleasing back of the mouth burst of bitterness. I have had this brew dozens of times before but on this tasting I am noticing a subtle nuttiness that flows through. It’s smooth, it’s delicious, it takes me away to a better place – of rainbows, star-drops, and midgets on ponies.
I give it a beer from glass rating of 9 out of 10.
Taste: BOTTLE – Drinking this from the bottle it appears to pack more of an all-mouth punch and becomes a little more flavour intense. Just as good, just as refreshing, just as memorable. My only drawback is the distinct absence of the nostril surrounding aroma.
I give it a taste from bottle rating of 8.5 out of 10.
A word from the wife: ‘Smooth, delicious and irresistible…just like my man’
She gave it a taste rating of 9 out of 10.
Song of choice: Try this along side the Foo Fighters’ ‘Everlong‘
Accompanying food: A grilled seafood platter with plenty of lemon would make this an arvo barbie in cupid-driven heaven.
Best season to appreciate: It’s definitely a good thirst quencher – Summer!
All-nighter beer? Absolutely! This was the beer of choice for me at my wedding so it’s tried and tested.
Other: 100 beer reviews eh? I never would have believed this target was achievable when I begun way back in April 2009. I am very thankful to have stuck with this blog for the past 2 years and very thankful to all my readers, contributers, and Twitter followers. Here’s cheers to another 100 beers!
NEXT WEEK: I’m not sure just yet…but from this day forth I am open to reviewing more beers from the same brewery. I had a previously held ideal that I would work my way through as many breweries as possible without any double ups. Sure I’ve lapsed a couple of times already but from now on, there are no rules. Suggestions welcome!
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your service to Australian beer drinkers.
Doff your hat and acknowledge the applause from the crowd – for it is well earned.
Well done on reaching 100!

Being such a nerdy fan of this blog, it’s timely to point out that I seem to recall that this very beer copped a mention in the very first Hellcat beer review. I’ve often wondered why it’s never been reviewed and now we know! This beer is bloody magnificent and should be frequently enjoyed.

Damn that is impressive, BD. And you are absolutely correct…I did mention Little Creatures way back on April 1, 2009. You’ve earned yourself a beer and a lie down.

And for once I agree with the selected accompanying song too!
Just for old times sake, some beer nerd notes on Little Creatures: Arguably Australia’s best and certainly most well known beer of the American Pale Ale style, has probably generated the revolution in hoppy ales which adorn the shelves of bottle-o’s and the pages of this blog. I’ve never tried to dry-hop a home-brew but damn this beer makes me want to try this technique.
